Mudgee Wineries Where You Can Stay the Night

Mudgee's cellar doors are spread out around town, close enough to string together in a day and far enough apart that nobody wants to drive back after the last one. Six Mudgee wineries let you stay on the property instead, from a studio for two below a kitchen garden to a three-bedroom lodge for a group. Every stay below is described in the venue's own words.

1) Pieter Van Gent Winery & Vineyard (Eurunderee), three stays from a studio to a lodge
Why it works:
- Their own words: “Indulge in the ultimate Mudgee wine country accommodation at Pieter Van Gent Winery & Vineyard.”
- There are three stays: The Studio for couples, Bushmans Cottage for “up to four guests”, and Pipeclay Lodge, with “three well-appointed bedrooms”, two queens and one with two singles.
- The cellar door is open daily, 10am to 4pm.
It is the one to look at for a bigger group: they say they take bookings for large groups of 20 or more.
2) YEATES Wines (Eurunderee), two adults-only stays at the cellar door
Yeates offers “two separate adults-only accommodation spaces”, “located on a working vineyard and within our cellar door grounds”. The Gate House sits beside the cellar door and the Vine Loft sits above it. “Each one-bedroom space can be booked separately, or you can book the two together if you travelling in a group of four.” The cellar door opens Thursday, 11am to 4pm, Friday and Saturday, 11am to 5.30pm, and Sunday, 11am to 4pm.
3) Rosby Wines (Eurunderee), a guesthouse for eight and a studio for two
Rosby has a “Four-bedroom guesthouse for up to eight guests” and a “Separate studio apartment for two” at the property on Strikes Lane, with Mudgee about ten minutes' drive away. The cellar door opens Thursday to Monday, 10am to 4pm.
Mudgee
4) Lowe Family Wine Co (Mudgee), a studio in the kitchen garden
Shed by Zin is “Boutique studio accommodation on the Lowe estate”, “Situated below zin food + wine house, nestled amongst it’s extensive kitchen gardens, and overlooking the organic & biodynamic Lowe Family Wine Co farm”. It is for two people. They note it is a working farm, so gardeners and chefs may be about during opening hours. The cellar door is open daily, 10am to 5pm.
5) Burnbrae Wines (Mudgee), a cottage a lawn away from the cellar door
Burnbrae's Winemaker's Cottage is “a cute two-bedroom cottage” with two queen beds and a back verandah “a grassy lawn away from the Burnbrae Wines cellar door”. There is a “Minimum 2 night stay”. The cellar door opens Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
Apple Tree Flat
6) Skimstone (Apple Tree Flat), two houses that take dogs
Skimstone lets two houses. The two-bedroom house is “Comfortable for 4-6 people” and the three-bedroom house is “Comfortable for 6-8 people”, and the property has a large undercover outdoor space with a barbecue. “Dogs are welcome.” There is a $30 pet fee and a refundable $50 deposit. The cellar door opens Thursday to Monday, 10am to 5pm.

The Cheat Code: How to Plan a Mudgee Stay Without Driving Twice
Mudgee's cellar doors keep different days, and four of the six on this list close on at least two weekdays. The mistake is booking the bed first and the tastings second.
Book in this order:
- Pick your days, then check who is open on them. Yeates opens Thursday to Sunday, Burnbrae Wednesday to Sunday, and Rosby and Skimstone close on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Match the stay to the group. Two people are best served by Shed by Zin, The Studio at Pieter Van Gent, the Rosby studio or a Yeates stay. Six or more should look at Pipeclay Lodge, the Rosby guesthouse or a Skimstone house.
- Make the estate you sleep at the last tasting of the day, so the final stop is the one you can walk home from.
Two things people get wrong:
- Forgetting the minimum stay. Burnbrae's cottage asks for two nights.
- Bringing the dog to the wrong place. Skimstone's houses take dogs; the Yeates stays are adults only.
